Pai Gow Poker - insights about this game

Pai Gow poker has its origins in a Chinese domino game played with tiles. If you ever find yourself in a casino that offers table games, a Pai Gow poker game is an interesting one to try. In this article, we’ll present a brief overview of Pai Gow poker.

Unlike the Chinese Pai Gow game, American casino Pai Gow poker is played with cards instead of the traditional Chinese domino tiles. This popular game uses a standard 52-card deck plus one joker and is played on a table that accommodates up to six players. According to Pai Gow poker rules, the object of the game is to defeat the player (or the casino dealer) designated as the banker. Players attempt to make the best 2 poker hands they can from the 7 cards in their hand. In a game of Pai Gow poker, one of the hands must comprise 5 cards and the other must comprise 2 cards.

When you play casino Pai Gow poker, you’ll notice that the game is slow-paced, making it a perfect choice for beginners who might be intimidated by the faster pace and higher intensity of games like blackjack. Play begins in a Pai Gow poker hand with each player making a bet. Then, a roll of the dice or a random number generator determines which player will receive the first seven-card hand. Cards are dealt around the table and then each player arranges his dealt cards into a 5-card and a 2-card hand. The dealer does so also, but he is governed by the “house way,” a set of fixed rules that determines the dealer’s Pai Gow poker play. Then, each player compares his hands to the dealer’s hands and the highest-value hand wins. Each player must win with both of his hands to win his bet. A push occurs when a player wins with one hand and loses with the other. The house typically takes a 5% commission when you play Pai Gow poker.

Pai Gow poker, as played in American casinos, is an interesting game that depends on both skill and luck. It’s worth trying a hand or two just for a change of pace.
