Some people whether because they are sore losers or because they just avaricious, stoop so low as to cheat during poker. This article is intended to give a run down of some of the more common techniques and methods used by cheats, so that you can be better prepared to catch them out. One of the most common methods of shuffling a deck of cards is the over handed method, where part of the deck is held in one hand, the remainder of the deck in the other hand, and then the cards are steadily transferred from one hand to another and the con here involves transferring the desired card. The cheater achieves this by placing the desired card either at the very top or the very bottom of the deck, allowing them easy access to the card after the shuffling is complete. With the first transfer of cards from one hand to another, the cheat will ensure that they discreetly separate the top card from the remaining cards, meaning that by ensuring that all the other cards are placed on top of the top card, the top card will always be at the very bottom of the deck. Towards the end of the shuffle, they will move the cards in such a way that only the bottom card is now in the “original” hand, and then at the very end of the shuffle, they will place that bottom card at the very top. Invert the positions for the cards, if the desired card is at the bottom of the deck. Having the deck cut before and even after the cards have been shuffled is an excellent way of beating the cheats, as it will ruin their carefully planned alignment of the cards.
