Poker Hands

Any given poker hand (the combination of cards held by a player) will always consist of five cards, each and every poker hand will fall within a particular category and in any given game, the player with the highest poker hand is the winner of the game thereby winning all money at stake in the pot. In the event of a draw between two players, whereby they both have the same poker hand, then the ultimate winner will then be determined according to the player who has the highest cards. The highest category of combination of cards available in the so called straight flush, as the name suggests, it will consist of 5 cards, each from the same suite (that is diamonds, spades, clubs, hearts) in sequential order. (4,5,6,7,8, would be a straight flush, 4,5,6,7,9 would not.) There are variations of the straight flush, if a player possesses all the royal cards, along with a ten, then this is the royal flush. The royal flush incidentally is the highest straight flush possible. 5,4,3,2,Ace (Ace counts as a 1) is the lowest straight flush possible. In 2nd place is the easy to remember “4 of a kind”. This simple means that all 4 numerical/royal cards from each of the suits is in the players possession and in the event of a tie, then the final, 5th card in the possession of each player is then compared, the higher value wins. The 5th card is referred to as the “kicker” and this does not mean the bad loser at the table! A full house consists of 3 cards of the same numerical value (with each 3 obviously from differing suits) as well as a pair of another 2 cards with an equal numerical value. It should be noted that the pair need not have the same value as the 3 of the kind.
